Move Column/Row Without Replacing/Overwriting Existing Data
Here we will complete the task using the select and drag method. So let us see a simple process to know how you can move a column or row without replacing or overwriting existing data in Excel.
Step 1
Consider an Excel file where the data sheet is similar to the below image.
First, click on the heading of the specified column or row to select Enter column or row.
Step 2
Then move the cursor to the edge of the selected row or column until it changes to an arrow cursor, then hold the shift button to drag the selected column or row to a new location.
This is how you can move a column or row without replacing the existing data in Excel.
Note
This method will paste the data in the default way if the destination cells are empty. If the destination cells already have data, it will be moved to an adjacent location and the data will be pasted.
