How to change – (dashes) to 0 (zero) in Excel?


You may be curious, before we all get started, suppose you have a range of data that is interspersed with dashes, and you want to convert all of the cells that contain dashes to zeros in Excel.

Using the Find and Replace feature in Excel, you will be able to convert all dashes to zeros in the range that you have selected in this section.

Let’s understand step by step with an example.

Step 1

In the first step, Let’s assume we have a sample data as shown in the below screenshot.

Step 2

Now, you can Choose the range with dashed cells that you want to replace with zeros. Refer to the below screenshot.

Step 3

To activate the Find and Replace dialog box, simultaneously press the Ctrl+H keys on your keyboard. Click the Options button after entering '-' and '0' into the Find what box and the Replaces with box, respectively, in this dialog box's Replace tab. Then click the Replace tab's Options button. Check out this screenshot below.

Step 4

Now, Click the Replace All button after checking the box that says Match entire cell contents in the part that has been expanded. As shown in the below screenshot.

Step 5

Automatically one pop up dialog box will be appeared. Then, click the OK button in the Pop-up box that comes up. Refer to the below screenshot.

Step 6

Now, close the Find and Replace window. Refer to the below screenshot.

Step 7

Now, all dashes in cells have been replaced with zeros.
