How to add header or footer to first page only in an Excel worksheet?


If you add a header or footer to a worksheet, generally, all pages within the worksheet will have the same header or footer. However, sometimes you need to add the header or footer to the first page only. The ability to add headers or footers to a printed worksheet in Excel allows you to place them at the top or bottom of the worksheet.

Adding a Header or Footer to the First Page of a Worksheet

In order to insert headers or footers onto the first page of a worksheet, you can follow the steps given below −

Step 1

Open the Excel sheet and select the Insert tab.

Select the Text group.

Step 3

After selecting the text from the Insert tab, select Header & Footer.

Step 4

Now select the header area and we have selected the center header area.

Step 5

Once you scroll down the Excel sheet, you will see the Footer as shown in below.

The header or footer can be added or edited at the top or bottom of the worksheet page (under Header, or above Footer) by clicking the left, center, or right header or footer text box.

Step 7

Click anywhere on the sheet.

As you can see, we have entered the title ‘WELCOME’ in the center of the header area in the example.

Points to Note

  • If you wish to add headers to the remaining pages of this worksheet, you simply need to enter your header information into the second page of this worksheet, and all other pages of this worksheet will have the same header as the second page.

  • You can start a new line by pressing enter in a header or footer text box.

  • Click anywhere in the worksheet, to close headers or footers without keeping the changes that you made, press Esc.

  • To include a single "&" in the text of a header or footer, use two "&&". For example, to include "Apple & Samsung" in a header, type Apple && Samsung.
