Display Month in MMM format in Java

Java 8Object Oriented ProgrammingProgramming

The MMM format for months is the short name i.e. Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, etc. Here, we will use the following.

SimpleDateFormat("MMM");

Let us see an example.

// displaying month in MMM format SimpleDateFormat simpleformat = new SimpleDateFormat("MMM");
String strMonth= simpleformat.format(new Date());
System.out.println("Month in MMM format = "+strMonth);

Above, we have used the SimpleDateFormat class, therefore the following package is imported.

import java.text.SimpleDateFormat;

The following is an example.

Example

 Live Demo

import java.text.Format;
import java.text.SimpleDateFormat;
import java.util.Date;
import java.util.Calendar;
public class Demo {
   public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
      // displaying current date and time
      Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance();
      SimpleDateFormat simpleformat = new SimpleDateFormat("E, dd MMM yyyy HH:mm:ss");
      System.out.println("Date and time = "+simpleformat.format(cal.getTime()));
      // displaying date
      simpleformat = new SimpleDateFormat("dd/MMMM/yyyy");
      String str = simpleformat.format(new Date());
      System.out.println("Current Date = "+str);
      // displaying month in MMM format
      simpleformat = new SimpleDateFormat("MMM");
      String strMonth= simpleformat.format(new Date());
      System.out.println("Month in MMM format = "+strMonth);
      // current time
      simpleformat = new SimpleDateFormat("HH.mm.ss");
      String strTime = simpleformat.format(new Date());
      System.out.println("Current Time = "+strTime);
   }
}

Output

Date and time = Mon, 26 Nov 2018 10:43:56
Current Date = 26/November/2018
Month in MMM format = Nov
Current Time = 10.43.56
