1 - Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan launched book on Indian Cinema

Veteran Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan launched a book titled as 'Bollywood: The Films! The Songs! The Stars!'. The book is based on facts, insight stories, making of movies and behind the scenes of bollywood film industry. It is co-authored by S.M.M. Ausaja, Karan Bali, Rajesh Devraj and Tanul Thakur. British multinational publishing company Dorling Kindersley (DK) has taken the initiative of publishing the book. The book details popular Bollywood films and actors in a chronological order.

2 - Bengali Poet Joy Goswami to Get 31st Moortidevi Award

Eminent Bengali poet Joy Goswami will be honoured with the 31st Moortidevi Award for the year 2017 for his poetry collection titled 'Du Dondo Phowara Matro'. The selection committee was headed by poet and scholar Satya Vrat Shastri. The award consists of a Saraswati Statue, a Citation Plaque and cash award of Rupees 4 lac. Joy Goswami has received many awards including Kendriya and Bangla Sahitya Akademi Awards, Ananda Purashkar, and the first Tata Literature Live Poet Laureate Award.

3 - Mamang Dai and Ramesh Kuntal won Sahitya Akademi award

Mamang Dai and Ramesh Kuntal

Sahitya Akademi announced its annual awards for 2017 in 24 languages. Seven novels, five collections each of poetry and short stories, five works of literary criticism, a play and a book of essays have won the awards. Mamang Dai received award in English language for his novel ‘The Black Hill’. Ramesh Kuntal Megh won the award in Hindi for his literary criticism work Vishw Mithak Sarit Sagar. The award in the form of a casket containing an engraved copper-plaque, a shawl and a cheque of 1 lakh rupees was presented.

4 - ‘The Way I See It’ book launched on Gauri Lankesh’s writings

The Way I See It - a Gauri Lankesh Reader, book on selected writings by journalist late Gauri Lankesh was launched at Mumbai. It has been edited by writer and sociologist Chandan Gowda. The book details about the perspective by which she saw the world. Gauri Lankesh often raised her voice against religious violence, caste system and rise of Hindu groups. She was shot dead in Bengaluru by unidentified killers in her home.

5 - Mamta Kalia to be honoured with 27th Vyas Samman

Popular Hindi scholar and writer Mamta Kalia has been chosen for this year's Vyas Samman for her novel "Dukkham Sukkham". "Dukkham Sukkham" is a saga of a lower middle-class family's three generations. The literary work focuses on the transition in relations and situations of our society. The award instituted by the K K Birla Foundation carries a cash prize of Rs 3.50 lakh. It is given annually to outstanding literary work in Hindi authored by an Indian citizen.
