News 1 - Indian-origin official Sanjay Pradhan to lead Open Government Partnership.

The Open Government Partnership (OGP) on 16 December 2015 selected Indian-origin World Bank official, Sanjay Pradhan (Currently Vice President for Change, Leadership and Innovation at the World Bank Group) to lead the organization. He holds a PhD and a Bachelor’s degree from Harvard University.

News 2 - French President Francois Hollande to be Chief Guest at Republic Day in India.

President of France Francois Hollande will be the Chief Guest at 67th India’s Republic Day (26 January 2016) celebrations.

Apart from this, Hollande will be the fifth French leader to be a chief guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations, maximum number from any country so far. Bhutan's head has presided four times so far. In 2015, the United States President Barack Obama was invited as the chief guest on the Republic Day. Obama was the first US President to attend the Republic Day Parade of India.

News 3 - Indian-origin politician Pravin Gordhan becomes South Africa’s Finance Minister.

An Indian-origin politician, Pravin Gordhan has been appointed as South Africa’s new Finance Minister. He replaces David van Rooyen. Pravin Gordhan is also former Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs for 2014-2015, he succeeded Lechesa Tsenoli.

News 4 - Sir Venkatraman Ramakrishnan assumed Presidency of the Royal Society.

Sir Venkatraman Ramakrishnan on 1 December 2015 assumed Presidency of the Royal Society in London. He was elected to the office in March 2015 by the society’s council and will serve for up to five years. Sir Venkatraman Ramakrishnan is the 61st president of this Society.

News 5 - Indian-American Dr. Vijay M Rao named as Chairperson of RSNA.

Indian-American Dr. Vijay M Rao was named as the chairperson of the prestigious Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Board of Directors on 2 December 2015.She is the first woman chairperson of a Clinical department in Jefferson's history (2002).

News 6 - Indian American Rakesh K Jain selected for US National Medal of Science 2015.

Indian American Professor, Rakesh K Jain was on 22 December 2015 selected for the National Medal of Science 2015 of United States (US). Jain is a professor at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Tumor Biology Laboratory at Massachusetts General Hospital.

He will receive the honor along with 16 other winners of the National Medal of Science and National Medal of Technology and Innovation at a White House ceremony in 2016. Awarded annually, this Medal recognizes individuals, who have made outstanding contributions to science and engineering. It is considered as the United States' highest honor for achievement and leadership in advancing the fields of science and technology.

News 7 - Kapil Chopra to head World Tourism Council.

Kapil Chopra, President, The Oberoi Group, has been appointed as the Chairman of World Travel & Tourism Council, India Initiative (WTTCII) for 2016, a statement from the hotel group said on Thursday.

Ashwani Lohani, Chairman & Managing Director, Air India, has been appointed as the Vice-Chairman of WTTCII for 2016.
