What is the full form of LLQ?
What is LLQ?
LLQ can be expanded to the Left Lower Quadrant. It is a disease in which the lower left side of the abdomen starts paining. The pain can occur from gas, constipation, IBD, and many more. The pain can be mild or severe and it can be treated on the basis of the cause. The pain is chronic and persistent and you need to visit a doctor for the treatment. The pain can occur gradually or all of a sudden.
Causes of LLQ
There are many causes that can lead to LLQ and we will discuss them here in detail.
Diverticulitis
Diverticulitis is a condition in which small pouches present in the intestine are infected due to any reason. This condition can also occur due to the inflammation of the pouches. If the condition is not treated, it can lead to different types of complications.
Celiac Disease
Celiac disease is a chronic condition which occurs when the digestive system is unable to digest gluten which is a protein available in wheat and wheat flour along with other foods made from wheat. In this condition, the immune system starts attacking the portions of the intestine that consist of gluten. If the condition is not treated, it can damage the small intestine.
Gas
Gas is not a severe condition as it easily passes through the anus and mouth. Gas can be caused due to digestion of food, smoking, chewing gum, undigested food, bacteria, overeating, and many more. Gas can also cause abdominal pain if not checked.
Lactose Intolerance
If you suffer from lactose intolerance, then milk digestion is difficult. You will also not be able to digest products in which milk is used. This condition occurs due to the lack of lactase enzyme that digests the milk and its products.
Inflammatory Bowel Disease
IBD is a disease in which the digestive tract has inflammation which becomes painful at later stages if not treated.
Indigestion
Indigestion is a condition in which the gastrointestinal system is affected. Abdominal pain can occur due to this situation in the upper part. The symptoms of indigestion are mild. Relief medications are prescribed to cure the condition.
Shingles
The virus that causes chickenpox can also shingles. People who suffered from chicken pox and get cured will have the virus dormant in their bodies. This virus can reactivate again at any time and cause shingles which appear in the form of rashes on the skin and may cause pain in the abdomen. Antiviral medicines like valacyclovir and acyclovir are prescribed for this condition.
Hernia
Hernia is a condition in which a body part or any organ pushes the abdominal wall and may lead to a bulge appearance. Hernia is of many types and if you feel its symptoms like a bulge in the abdomen, pain in the area of the hernia, discomfort when straining the abdomen, etc. you need to see a doctor.

There are different ways which are used to diagnose LLQ. Some of them are listed below −

Treatment of LLQ
The treatment of LLQ depends on the causes that led to the disease and resulted in abdominal pain. You will have to tell the doctor about the symptoms you are feeling and the doctor will start the examination accordingly. Some conditions can be cured by medicines like Diverticulitis while some may need surgery like Hernia. You may also have to change your diet to get rid of the conditions like constipation. Food intolerances like lactose intolerance cannot be cured so you will have to avoid such foods that cause the intolerance.
