Course Description

Welcome to Musical German for Beginners!

In this fun and musical class, learners explore German greetings, keywords, introduction vocabulary and pronunciation - through music! Learning a language is fun and easy with Frau Kelsey - let's sing, dance and color!

Perfect for young learners who love music and coloring, but also encouraged for adults who want to learn German the way natives do - total immersion and with lots of colorful examples!   With this class, you'll need to be able to communicate at a beginning level with German speakers, perfect for taking a post-covid vacation or hosting an exchange student.)

This class is lots of fun - and full of music! We sing 6-8 songs during each class, learn a set of key vocabulary words and phrases, and color fun pictures.

Class Structure

We begin each class with our Welcome Song and introductions. Students are invited to dance and sing and use their musical instruments! We practice easy songs to introduce the topic of the day, and then sing the German ABC's. We review spelling, play fun games, use catchy rhymes, and explore a different topic during each section (listed below). The students practice speaking, and explore vocabulary and sentence structure with gentle pronunciation correction. A list of vocabulary words is provided for review, and parents are encouraged to assist and participate.

Class 1: Greetings
Class 2: Colors
Class 3: Body Parts
Class 4: Animals

We then have Show and Tell! Because this is a recorded class, for show and tell, students learn how to describe and discuss their toys in German, sharing why they like them and what they like to do with them.  We then sing and dance with our Show and Tell toys to our Show and Tell Song!  The Show and Tell topics for each class:

Class 1: Cat/dog
Class 2: Doll/ball
Class 3: Dinosaur/Sunglasses
Class 4: Computer/Phone

It's then time to color! Students are provided with two coloring pages before each class (you are also welcome to use blank paper or coloring pages of your choice if preferred, or printing is not an option), which we color for the last few minutes to wrap up our topic of the day! Students are then invited to share their beautiful pictures while singing our Goodbye Song!
