Course Description

This course teaches students about emotional design in detail about how products are being emotionally made and being a designer how to understand the difference between cognition and emotions. Also students can learn about three different levels of emotions starting from western, behaviour, reflective in detail with real-time examples and overlapping flowcharts for clear precise meaning and understanding. Also the emotion design is directly correlated with maslow hierarchy principles and deter rams good design principle. Some of the examples of good and bad emotional designs have been explained with pictures. Students will also learn about colours and different materials and how different emotions are programmed with metaphorical product understanding.

Goals

What will you learn in this course:

  1. Students of design will learn about what is the real meaning of emotions design when it comes to designing a product, service, graphics, systems et cetera.
  2. Luminary difference between emotions and cognition: how do I bring work based on decision making when it comes to visit level of processing, behaviour level of processing, reflective level of processing when we buy and use certain products.
  3. Why we buy certain products based on emotional decisions of the story narrative attached to it rather than just seeing the functionality or vice versa also happens people buy the product irrespective of the form but there won't only function of course we need both functions and emotions in our products for buying decision
  4. How B2B to be buying decisions is largely based on emotions rather than logical or rational with a real-time statistics understanding has been shown
  5. How pleasurable experience designing can influence the peak experience for people when it comes to relating with the maestros hierarchy principle of self actualisation and self esteem, so your product only need not have to be functional or usable or trustable it needs to be more pleasurable for the people who are using that and getting the experience of it because people remember experience for years but they forget the functionality sometimes.
  6. Many examples of Good and bad emotional designs show from online.
  7. Product attributes - Metaphor Emotional design has been showcased for examples of Charles and Ray Eames chair design with leather material, banana shaped tetra packaging for a juice container how the colour, function, texture, even the small bruise details can able to influence the metaphorical resemblance of choosing a equal and product and also imprecise attributes of meta for selection also has been shown which is not to be used for the designer
  8. Emotional colours are very subjective for different cultures and context for application of colours. Very rough understanding is given for the students but largely students have to internalise what each colour provokes the different emotions for them when they are solving that particular problem or solution or process or system or graphic designs et cetera.
  9. How materials evoke different types of emotions and is totally PM9 different type of emotions which material when it is being touched and felt provokes different types of emotions and how we are able to understand by a very simple one minute exercise given to the students of the course.
  10. A simple class project with understanding 10 different products and its emotion associated to it has been given to the students this is largely important for making a class activity for the students in order to learn about how you illustrate the thought process when it comes to communicating different emotions of different different products this makes them more sensitised towards making a product design and eventually that gets implemented when they touch and feel the materials and design the same in their own way which creates a signature style for designing the products.
