Is $ 0.3 $ the multiplicative inverse of $ 3 \frac{1}{3} $ ? Why or why not?

AcademicMathematicsNCERTClass 8

To do:

We have to find whether \( 0.3 \) is the multiplicative inverse of \( 3 \frac{1}{3} \).

Solution:

$3\frac{1}{3} =\frac{3\times3+1}{3}$

$=\frac{10}{3}$

We know that,

The multiplicative inverse of $\frac{a}{b}$ is $\frac{b}{a}$

Therefore,

The multiplicative inverse of $\frac{10}{3}$ is $\frac{3}{10}$.

$0.3=\frac{3}{10}$

Hence, $0.3$ is the multiplicative inverse of $3\frac{1}{3}$.
