In a cricket match, a batswoman hits a boundary 6 times out of 30 balls she plays. Find the probability that she did not hit a boundary.

AcademicMathematicsNCERTClass 9

Given:

In a cricket match, a batswoman hits a boundary 6 times out of 30 balls she plays.

To do:

We have to find the probability that she did not hit a boundary.

Solution:

Total number of outcomes $=30$

The number of times she does not hit a boundary $=30-6$

$=24$

We know that,

Probability of an event=$ \frac{\text { Number of favourable outcomes }}{\text { Total number of outcomes }}$

Therefore,

The probability that she does not hit a boundary $=\frac{24}{30}$

$=0.8$

This implies,

The probability that she does not hit a boundary on a ball played is $0.8$.
