Create A Five-Star Rating System

Here, we will first use the formula to split the rating and then use conditional formatting to complete the task. So let us see a simple process to know how you can create a 5-star rating system in Excel.

Step 1

Consider an excel sheet where you have a list of names along with their rating, similar to the below image.

First, click on an empty cell, in our case cell C3, and enter the formula as =IF(C$1<=$B3,1,IF(ROUNDUP($B3,0)=C$1,MOD($B3,1),0)) and click enter to get the first value.

Empty cell > Formula > Enter.

Step 2

Now drag the auto-fill handle to fill all the values.

Step 3

Then select the range of cells, then click on conditional formatting and select a new rule. In the pop-up window, change the format style to Icon Set and the icon style to Stars, then change the values and click OK to complete the task.

Select cells > Conditional formatting > New rule.

Format style > Icon style > Value > Type > Ok.

The final result will be similar to the below image.
