The Preliminary Examination is of Objective Type (having multiple choice questions).
Only PT qualifying candidates are allowed for the Main Exam.
There is scheme of negative marking for incorrect answers (in PT).
For every incorrect answer, 50% marks will be deducted as penalty, e.g. each question carries 2 marks, so for wrong answer, 1 mark will be deducted from the correct answer.
However, if a candidate chooses not to give an answer rather leave it blank, no penalty will be charged.
Each paper will be of two hours duration.
The written examination consists of seven papers.
Marks obtained in PT are just qualifying and hence no role in final selection or ranking.
Marks obtained in rest seven papers (from Paper I to Paper VII of written exam) and in interview play major role in the final selection or ranking.
