How to trigger event in JavaScript?

The trigger() method triggers the specified event and the default behaviour of an event (like form submission) for the selected elements.

For example: 

$( "#foo" ).on( "click", function() {
  alert( $( this ).text() );
});
$( "#foo" ).trigger( "click" );
