Would the bulb glow after completing the circuit shown in Fig. 12.14 if instead of a safety pin we use an eraser?
"

Given:

An incomplete circuit in the given figure 12.14 and a safety pin are used for connecting wires in the given incomplete circuit.

To do:

This is to check whether the bulb will glow after completing the circuit shown in Fig. 12.14 if we use an eraser instead of a safety pin.

Solution:

In given incomplete circuit 12.14 following components are used:

1. One electric bulb

2. One electric cell

3. Connecting wires

4. One safety pin

This is an incomplete circuit, so there is no current flowing through the circuit. Therefore the bulb is not glowing in this incomplete circuit given in figure 12.14

Completing the circuit by using an eraser instead of a safety pin:

Let us draw a circuit diagram of a complete circuit and let us use an eraser instead of the safety pin. The diagram for a complete circuit after using an eraser is as given below:

Observation:

After completing the circuit by using the eraser instead of the safety pin, given in fig. 12.14, we come to know that the bulb does not glow.

Conclusion:

The bulb will not glow if an eraser is used instead of a safety pin. An eraser is made up of rubber which is an insulating material that prevents the current to flow through it. So an eraser would not let the current pass through the circuit and the bulb will not glow.
