Why it is beneficial to consume calcium-rich food?


Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the body makes up 1.9% of the body by weight. It is very important for forming and maintaining healthy teeth and bones. 

The 99% of calcium is present in the skeleton, hence calcium provides support to the body.  

Milk and milk products such as cheese, buttermilk, and yogurt are the best sources of calcium.

Other calcium-rich foods are

•    Green leafy vegetables such as broccoli, kale, cabbage, collard green, and okra

•    Seeds such as chia seeds, sunflower seeds, and sesame seeds

•    Soya beans and its products such as soya paneer (tofu) and soya milk

•    Nuts such as almonds and dried figs

•    Fish with eatable bones such as sardines and pilchards

Calcium deficiency leads to:

Hypocalcemia is often called a calcium deficiency disease because it happens when the body doesn't have enough calcium.

Long-term calcium deficiency can cause changes in the teeth, cataracts, brain changes, and osteoporosis, which makes the bones weak and increases the chance of cracks and breaks.
