Why do things become black after burning them?

Things which are combustible can be set on fire. The eco-friendly combustible materials like wood, paper, coal etc have a high carbon content in them. The color of carbon is black, it is proven by checking the coal which has the highest content of carbon and looks black.

So, when a material is burnt, it becomes black, due to the carbon content in it...
