Why are manure and fertilizers used in fields?

AcademicBiologyNCERTClass 9

Manure is partially decomposed organic matter made by recycling animal and plant wastes. Examples of manure include rabbit, horse, and chicken poop, bat guano, or cow dung. Urea is also used as manure.

Fertilizers are commercially produced chemicals that supply plants with nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (NPK). Examples of fertilizers include- Ammonium nitrate, Potassium chloride, Ammonium sulfate, Triple super-phosphate, etc.

Fertilizers and manures are used in the field to provide the required nutrients to the crops.

Fertilizers have several advantages over manure like-

1) Fertilizers are water-soluble and are hence readily absorbed by the plants.

2) A small amount of fertilizer is sufficient to provide the required nutrients to the plants.

3) Fertilizers are easy to store and transport.
