What will happen if intake of iodine in our diet is low?

The use of iodized salt is recommended in the diet because it helps the thyroid gland synthesize thyroxine hormone. 

Goiter is the name of the disease caused due to underactive functioning of the thyroid gland. It is recommended to use iodized salt to prevent goiter.

Enlarged thyroid gland and swollen neck are the main symptoms of goiter.
