What are the favorable qualities given to gold when it is alloyed with copper or silver for the purpose of making ornaments?
Pure gold is highly malleable and soft. When it is alloyed with copper or silver it becomes hard and strong and can be moulded into various shapes. An alloy that has 20 parts of gold and 4 parts of silver is known as 24 karat gold or pure gold.
