What are the best tourist places in Kerala?
Kerala is God’s own country and it is undoubtedly the most popular tourist destination in India known for its natural and cultural heritage. A tourist can find a variety of tourist hotspots in with food and accommodation in all price ranges. Kerala as a tourist destination can be visited at any time of the year but it’s during the monsoon that one can truly enjoy its scenic beauty. Other popular months are during the festivals of Onam and Vishu Kani.
Here are some of the best tourist destinations that one must visit on their tour to Kerala:
Munnar
Munnar is a hill station in Kerala which is best known for the Nilgiri Thar and acres of tea plantations. The important places to visit in Munnar are Kannan Devan Tea Museum, Eravikulam National Park, Mattupety dam, Attukal falls. One can spend a lot of time shopping for some homemade chocolates, fresh tea, handicrafts, etc. You can also entertain yourself with Kathakali, Mohiniattam, and Kalaripaitu performances.
Adrepalli Falls and Vazhachal Falls
In the Chalakkudy district, the two important spots that are considered to nature’s abode are Adirampalli and Vazhachal waterfalls. These two are one of the largest waterfalls in India and also in Asia. Many rightly describe it as the Niagara Falls of India. One can click some amazing pictures in the womb of nature and it’s a true paradise for botanists.
Thrissur
Thrissur is the cultural hub and heart of Kerala. In the month of April/May, one can take the pride and joy of visiting Kerala’s largest cultural event- Thrissurpooram at this place. One can visit Guruvayoor Temple, Mammiyoor Temple, Aanaitotam (Elephant Camp Sanctuary), Basilica of Our Lady of Dolours Church while in Thrissur.
Alleppey
This place is synonymous to backwaters when it comes to tourism in Kerala. The tourists rejoice the boat rides here and sometimes these can be extra-classy luxury boats. Vembanad here is the largest lake. Backwaters as a destination are even a popular for its boat festivals where a boat race happens during the Onam festival.
Kochi
Kochi (Ernakulam) is blessed with an amazing coastline of Arabian Sea. A tourist must visit the Cherai beach and marine drive here, Santa Cruz Basilica, St.Francis Church, Indo-Portuguese Museum, etc. Kochi is a multi-cultural and a rapidly developing city. Lulu Mall has become a new attraction for visitors here.
Thiruvananthapuram
The capital city of Kerala is a town of the richest temple of India- Sri Padmanabha Swamy Temple. The attraction in this city is the Trivandrum Zoo which has a unique diversity of flora and fauna and Raja Ravi Verma Art Gallery close to the zoo. The Attukal Devi Temple here has the Gunniess Book of World Records of having the highest gathering of women to prepare offerings for the Goddess.
