Two numbers are respectively 12 whole 1 upon 2% and 25% more than a third number. Find what percent is the first number of the second number?


Given:

Two numbers are respectively $12\frac{1}{2}\%$ and $25\%$ more than a third number. 

To do:

We have to find what percent is the first number of the second number.

Solution:

Let the third number be 100.

This implies,

The first number$=100+\frac{12\frac{1}{2}}{100}\times100=100+12.5$

$=112.5$

The second number$=100+\frac{25}{100}\times100$

$=100+25=125$

First number as a percentage of the second$=\frac{112.5}{125}\times100$%

$=\frac{9}{10}\times100$%

$=9\times10$%

$=90$%

The first number is 90% of the second number.
