Learn SAP OData Services

OData (open data protocol) service is a web protocol. It is one of the common ways for communicating with the SAP backend system with SAP UI5/Fiori or any other third-party software as the front end, which works on HTTP(s), e.g. salesforce, SAP C4C, CRM, or any other software portal.

SAP OData Services Overview

OData is used to update data into the SAP system using ABAP as well as to expose the SAP data with any other customer software that operates on HTTP(S).

We can access SAP data via Odata from any location and on any device. Client and server components can be created separately using the OData concept. The REST architecture is based on this system.

A variety of SAP connectors, including Java, .Net, and PHP-based ones, were used by developers before OData to create communication pathways between SAP and other programs. The flexibility of the OData service, which allows us to use it with any web-based application, makes it a preferred method of communication above others like IDOC, REST API, RFC/BAPI, etc.
