Ralph Lauren was born in New York City on October 14, 1939 as Ralph Rueben Lifshitz. Lauren went to Manhattan Talmudical Academy. He served in the United States Army from 1962 to 1964, then left and worked as a sales assistant at Brooks Brothers. He worked for Rivetz, and after that, in 1967, Ralph Lauren started his own company, The Ralph Lauren Corporation. Ralph Lauren married Ricky Ann Low−Beer in 1964, and they had three children. As Ralph Lauren said, "Style is very personal. It has nothing to do with fashion. Fashion is over quickly. "Style is forever". He made his style forever with his magnificent and signature designs for the fashion world.

He was named Womenswear Designer of the Year in 1996, Menswear Designer of the Year in 1996, Fashion Legend Award in 2007, and the Smithsonian Institution's James Smithson Bicentennial Medal in 2014.The Council of Fashion Designers of America gave him Lifetime Achievement in 1991.
