Yesterday I was pouring hot water in a glass cup and it shattered. Can you explain why is it so?

We know that solids expand on heating.

When hot water is poured into a glass cup, the part of the cup that comes in contact with water expands suddenly. Due to this sudden and uneven expansion, the glass cup is shattered.
