Write the word AMBULANCE as it would appear when reflected in a plane mirror. Why is it sometimes written in this way (as its mirror image) on the front of an ambulance?

The word ambulance would appear like the above when reflected in a plane mirror. It is written in this way so as to help a person driving a vehicle ahead of the ambulance to read it in the correct order as AMBULANCE when he/she sees the rear-view mirror, and give way for it to pass through. This happens because the rear-view mirror forms a laterally inverted image.

Explanation with the image is posted for reference only.

Lateral inversion is one of the characteristics of the plane mirror, which means the right side of the object appears as the left side of its image and vice-versa (left side of the object appears as the right side of its image).

Other characteristics of the image formed by a plane mirror are virtual, erect (upright), of the same size, and at the same distance.

Plane mirrors are used in kaleidoscopes, shaving mirrors, dentists' mirror, torch in the correct order.
