Write the structural formula of ethanol. What happens when it is heated with excess of conc. H2SO4 at 443 K? Write the chemical equation for the reaction stating the role of conc. H2SO4 in this reaction.

The structural formula of ethanol is given below:
On heating ethanol with an excess of conc. H2SO4 at 443 K, it is converted to Ethene.
$C_2H_5OH \xrightarrow {sulphuric  acid} C_2H_4 + H_2O$
Hot concentrated sulphuric acid is a strong dehydrating agent. It reacts with ethanol to give ethene by removing water.
