We have to find the ratio of 5 km to 500 m.

Solution :

 We know that, 

$1 km = 1000 m$

$5 km = 5 \times 1000 m = 5000 m$.

$5 km : 500 m = 5000 m : 500 m$

Cancel two zeros,

$50 : 5 = 10 : 1$                        $[10 \times 5 = 50]$

The ratio of 5 km to 500 m is 10 : 1.
