Write the difference between Biosphere Reserve and Zoo.


Biosphere Reserves-  are those areas that are used to conserve biodiversities like plants, animals, and microorganisms.

It consists of many wildlife sanctuaries and national parks.

Wildlife sanctuaries are used to protect and conserve wildlife in their natural habitats.

In India, there are 18 sites that have been declared as Biosphere Reserves.

Out of these 18 BRs, only nine has been accepted as part of the World Network of Biosphere Reserves of UNESCO.

They are:

1. Nanda Devi, (Uttarakhand)

2. Pachmarhi (Madhya Pradesh)

3. Sunderban (West Bengal)

4. Similipal (Odisha)

5. Nokrek (Meghalaya)

6. Nilgiri (Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka)

7. Gulf of Mannar (Tamil Nadu)

8. Achanakmar-Amarkantak (Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh)

9. Western Ghats(Maharashtra and Karnataka)

Zoo-  are those places where some animals are protected in artificial habitats to display animals to the public and educate the public about animals.
