Write the balanced chemical equation for the following and identify the type of reaction in each case :
(a) Potassium bromide (aq) + Barium iodide (aq) → Potassium iodide (aq) + Barium
(b) Zinc carbonate(s) → Zinc oxide (s) + Carbon dioxide (g) bromide(s)
(c) Hydrogen (g) + Chloride (g) → Hydrogen chloride (g)
(d) Magnesium (s) + Hydrochloric acid (aq) → Magnesium chloride (aq) + Hydrogen (g)

(a) 2KBr (aq) + Bal2(aq) → 2Kl(aq) + BaBr2(s)
Type : Double displacement reaction

Double displacement reaction: The reactions in which two compounds react by an exchange of ions to form two new compounds are called double displacement reactions.

Example: $\underset{(aq)}{Pb(NO_{3})_{2}}+\underset{(aq)}{2KI}\rightarrow \underset{yellow \; pp}{PbI_{2}(\downarrow)} +\underset{(aq)}{2KNO_{3}}$]

(b) ZnCO3 (s) → ZnO (s) + CO2 (g)
Type : Decomposition reaction

Decomposition reactions: The reactions in which a compound splits up into two or more simpler substances when energy is provided to it is known as decomposition reactions.
Example: When calcium carbonate is heated, it decomposes to give calcium oxide and carbon dioxide.
$CaCO_{3}\xrightarrow{Heat} CaO + CO_{2}$

(c) H2 (g) + Cl2 (g) → 2HCl(g)
Type : Combination reaction

combination reaction (also known as a synthesis reaction) is a reaction where two or more elements or compounds (reactants) combine to form a single compound (product).

It may be presented in the following form A + B --> AB.

eg: H2 + Cl2 --> 2HCl

         REACTANT 1       +        REACTANT 2              ----->                               PRODUCT

(d) Mg (s) + 2HCl (aq) → MgCl2 (aq) + H2 (g)
Type : Displacement reaction.

A displacement reaction is one wherein the atom or a set of atoms is displaced by another atom in a molecule. The general equation for displacement reaction is,

A + B-C → A-C + B.
