Write down the magnification formula for a lens in terms of object distance and image distance. How does this magnification formula for a lens differ from the corresponding formula for a mirror?
Magnification formula for a lens is given by:
$m=\frac {v}{u}$
Magnification formula for a mirror is given by:
$m=-\frac {v}{u}$
In both the formulas,
$m$ = Magnififcation
$v$ = Image distance
$u$ = Object distance
The magnification formula for a lens differs from the corresponding formula for a mirror by the negative sign $(-)$.
In the mirror magnification formula, a negative sign $(-)$ is present, whereas, in the lens magnification formula, a negative sign is not present.
