Write chemical equations to show what happens when:i. Ethanol is heated with concentrated sulphuric acid at 443 K.ii. Ethanol reacts with ethanoic acid in the presence of an acid acting as a catalyst.iii. An ester reacts with a base.

i. When ethanol is heated with concentrated sulphuric acid at 170C, it gets dehydrated to form ethene.

$C_2H_5OH \xrightarrow {sulphuric \ acid} C_2H_4 + H_2O$

ii. When ethanol reacts with ethanoic acid in the presence of a little concentrated sulphuric acid, a sweet-smelling ester called ethyl ethanoate is formed.

$C_2H_5OH + CH_3COOH \xrightarrow {acid} CH_3COOCH_2CH_3 + H_2O$

iii. When an ester reacts with base (NaOH), it gives ethanol and sodium ethanoate.

$CH_3COOCH_2CH_3 + NaOH \rightarrow CH_3COONa + CH_3CH_2OH$
