Why whale come out of water?

Whale and other fish, dolphin keeps coming up to the surface of water to breathe air.

Whale and dolphin do not have gills like other fishes to absorb oxygen dissolved in water. They use their lungs to breathe air and therefore they come to the surface of the ocean.

Blowholes are present on the top of whale and dolphin heads instead of the nose. These blowholes are surrounded by muscles that keep them closed when fishes are underwater and opened when animals come at the surface and required to breathe.
