Why the leaves are green?
Leaves are green because of the presence of the green-coloured pigment called Chlorophyll. It is found in the thylakoid membranes inside the chloroplast.
It absorbs light (red and blue) for energy, the unabsorbed green bounces away and is detected by our eyes and thus appearing green. It absorbs light to provide energy for photosynthesis to occur.
