Why replication of DNA is necessary?

Replication of DNA is the base of biological inheritance in living beings. 

It produces similar copies of the DNA that are distributed in all the different cells in the body. The presence of the same type of DNA in all the cells assures the presence of similar genetic material. 

In lower strata of organisms, DNA replication is essential during the reproduction to maintain the same genes in the progeny.
