Water can dissolve a large number of substances, so it is needed by the body. It is also a major part of our body cells.

Water resources are natural resources of water that are potentially useful. It is important because it is needed for life to exist. It makes up about 70 percent of our body content. Uses of water include agricultural, industrial, household, recreational and environmental activities. All living things require water to grow. 


The importance of water in our body can be categorized into four basic functions:

  • Transportation: water helps in removing of wastes from our body through urination, perspiration, and bowel movements.
  • Medium for chemical reactions: Water is a medium for many biochemical reactions occurring inside the human body.
  • Lubricant/shock absorber: It lubricates and cushions joints and protects our spinal cord and other sensitive tissues like the brain and heart.
  • Temperature regulator: The presence of water in our body regulates its temperature.]
