Why does the hot tea become cold after sometime?

The hot tea is at a higher temperature than the surroundings. We know heat flows from hot objects to cold objects. In this case, the heat energy in the tea will flow from the hot tea to colder surroundings. This heat flow will happen until the tea reaches the temperature of the surroundings.

The heat from the tea is transferred to the surroundings through a process called convection. The nearby air molecules will collide with the tea in the cup and take away its heat energy and transfer it through the surrounding air. This is the reason why hot tea becomes cold after some time.
