Why do solids have a fixed shape?

Solid is one of the three fundamental states of matter (the others are liquid and gas).

The molecules in a solid are closely packed together that's why solid has a definite or fixed shape and volume.

Examples- maximum things around us are solid, like the plant, wood, glass, rock, most metals, etc.
