Why do indicators don't change their colour in neutral substance?

  • The colour change of a pH indicator is caused by the dissociation of the H+ ion from the indicator itself.
  • pH indicators are in itself natural dyes.
  • The neutral substance does not change the pH because neutral substances are neither acidic nor basic and thus does not change the colour of the indicator.
