Why do fishes die when taken out of water?


Fishes die when taken out of water because their respiratory organ, gills are specialized to only extract dissolved oxygen from the water and provide it to fish. Gills are unable to extract oxygen from the air. Hence, due to lack of oxygen fishes die when taken out of water.
