Why do farmers add quick lime to his fields?
Most of the time the soils in the agricultural fields contain acidic substances, which brings down the pH of the soil. Thus quick lime is added to the soil by the farmers so as to neutralise the acids in it and bring the pH to around 7, which is optimum for the growth of the plants.
