Why are coal and petroleum categorized as natural resources? Given a reason as to why they should be used judiciously.


Coal and petroleum are known as natural resources because they are obtained from nature and utilizing processes. 

Coal is formed from the dead plants while petroleum is formed from the dead animals (plankton) under biological and geological processes in million years. As this processes are manufactured naturally without human interruption thus it is categorized as a natural resource.

Natural resources are to be used judiciously as it takes millions of years for their formation and they cannot be made by humans.
