Which of the following is greater?$\frac{1}{4} \times \frac{1}{4}$ or $\frac{1}{4} \times \frac{1}{7}$

Given :

The given fractions are $\frac{1}{4} \times \frac{1}{4}$ and $\frac{1}{4} \times \frac{1}{7}$.

To do :

We have to find which of the given fractions is greater.

Solution :

 $\frac{1}{4} \times \frac{1}{4} = \frac{(1\times 1)}{(4\times 4)} = \frac{1}{16}$

 $\frac{1}{4} \times \frac{1}{7} = \frac{(1\times 1)}{(4\times 7)} = \frac{1}{28}$

The number with the smaller denominator is the greater number.

Therefore,

$16<28$

$ \frac{1}{16} >  \frac{1}{28}$

$\frac{1}{4} \times \frac{1}{4} >\frac{1}{4} \times \frac{1}{7}$

Therefore, the $\frac{1}{4} \times \frac{1}{4}$ is greater than$\frac{1}{4} \times \frac{1}{7}$.
