Where do the lipids and proteins constituting the cell membrane get synthesized?

Lipids constituting the cell membrane are synthesized in the smooth endoplasmic reticulum, while proteins constituting the cell membrane are synthesized on the surface of the rough endoplasmic reticulum.

The endoplasmic reticulum is a network of membranous tubules found within the cytoplasm of a eukaryotic cell, continuous with the nuclear membrane.

It usually has ribosomes attached and is involved in protein and lipid synthesis. The endoplasmic reticulum is a type of cell organelle that can be classified into two different forms based on the presence of ribosomes on their surface– the rough endoplasmic reticulum, and the smooth endoplasmic reticulum.
