When we heat a substance several changes can take place. Three of them are:

Expansion: Expansion of solids can take place if they are heated. For example, in summer the railway tracks will expand because of heat from sunlight.

Color change: On heating ferrous sulfate crystals lose water, forming anhydrous ferrous sulfate. Thus the color would from light green to white.

State change: If water is heated up to 100 degrees centigrade, it turns into water vapor.
