When we subtract a positive integer in which direction we have to move on the number line?
Subtraction of positive numbers on the number line:
To add on number line. We have to move to the right by that many steps.
To subtract on the number line we have to move left by that many steps.
Let us solve $6 - 6 + 3$ using number line.
- First, let us mark 6 on the number line
- Then to subtract with 6 let us move 6 steps backward. So we end up at 0
- Now to add 3, let us move 3 steps forward, now we end up at 3.
- So 3 is the final position. So 3 is the answer
When we subtract a positive number, we have to move in the left direction on the number line.
