When we enter the room from bring sunlight outside, why does it take sometime  to see the objects in a dim room?

The pupil is a hole which is located in the center of the iris of the eye. It allows light to strike the retina. The size of the pupil determines the amount of light, that enters the eye.

In bright light, the size of the pupil is small to limit the amount of light entering the eye. When we enter a dim room, the amount of surrounding light is reduced all of a sudden. It takes some time for the pupil to expand, so very less amount of light enters the eye. After some time the size of the pupil increases and a sufficient amount of light is allowed to pass.

This is the reason why we cannot see objects immediately after we enter a dim room and it takes some time to be able to see them.
