When the two things like a glass rod & a silk cloth rubbed together, then how do we get to know that on Glass rod there is a positive current and on Silk cloth, there is a negative current?

To find out which substance gains electrons and become negatively charged and which loses to become positively charged, there is a list known as the triboelectric series.

Triboelectric series is a list that ranks materials according to their tendency to gain or lose electrons. The process of electron transfer as a result of two objects coming into contact with one another and then separating is called triboelectric charging.

In another way, you can do an activity to find out that which object is positively charged and which is negatively charged, if one of the objects is known to be positive or negative according to triboelectric series.

Take a two set of objects like Glass rod - Silk cloth and Acetate plastic rod and a duster. Now, rub each of them with their set (Glass rod with silk, and Acetate plastic rod with a duster), then you will have two positively and negatively charged objects which would be unknown to you that which of them carry a positive or negative charge.

Randomly bring any two of them closer, if they repel each other then they'll have the same charge (either positive or negative), if they attract then you'll have a positive and a negatively charged object.
