When an object is at rest and at ground level what type of energy does it posses? Why?
Let an object of mass $m$ be at rest at ground level.
So, its velocity would be zero. $v=0$
So, kinetic energy $K.E.=\frac{1}{2}mv^2=0$
As given the object is placed at ground level. So, the height $h$ will be zero.
So, its potential energy $P.E.=mgh=0$
Here, we got to know that both kinetic and gravitational potential energies of the object $(when\ it\ is\ at\ rest\ at\ ground\ level)$ are zero. But the object can possess energy $(E=mc^2)$ due to its mass which gets converted into kinetic energy when the object is brought into motion from the rest at ground level. And this energy also gets converted into gravitational potential energy when it is kept at a certain height from the ground level.
