What will be the median, if the number of data is even?

Median:

The median of a set of numbers is the middle number in the set (after the numbers have been arranged from least to greatest) or, if there are even numbers in the given data, the median is the average of the two middle numbers.

If the number of data is 'n',(n is even) then median is given by,

Median $= \frac{\frac{n}{2}^{th} term + \frac{(n+1)}{2}^{th}term}{2}$

For example,

Find the median of the set {2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 8, 12 ,9, 10, 6}

Arranging the numbers in ascending order,

{2,3,5,6,7,8,8,9,10,12}

Median $= \frac{8+8}{2} = \frac{16}{2} = 8$.
